Hingham High’s boys and girls track and field teams stepped onto their home track on May 5 against Duxbury carrying something heavier than spikes and batons after the recent passing of longtime head coach Fred Jewett.
The boys delivered a commanding 89–47 victory, toppling the Dragons with speed, depth and a surge of personal bests. The Harborwomen came up on the short end of a 104-32 decision against Duxbury but impressed with their resilience while posting PRs around every turn of the track oval.
In the sprints, Graham Carlson led the charge with a second-place finish in the 100m and a personal best in the 200m for second. Michael Blackwood added a PR for third in the 100m, while Jahbriel Johnson posted a PR in the 200m (third) before returning to win the 400m in another PR. John Hamilton followed with a PR of his own for third in the 400m.
The distance crew turned the meet into a showcase. Gavin Anderson and Travis O’Neil went 1–2 in the mile with matching personal bests of 4:45 and 4:47, then doubled back to do it again in the 2-mile, again with PRs. Freshman Elliot Sandifer added a PR for fourth in the mile. Tommy Simpson took first in the 800, with Brendan O’Neil placing third.
Over the hurdles, Nolan McManus ran a PR for second in the 110m hurdles, then came back to win the 400m with another PR, followed by Lundon Jackson, who also recorded a PR.
The relay team of Jack Griffiths, Jordan Johnson, Connor Gately and Josh Greisner captured first in the 4x100m.
In the field events, Owen Bernard won the discus, with Evan Benham earning a PR for fourth. Bernard and Zach Wong (PR) led a strong showing in shot put. Wong returned to win the javelin, with Alec Menuchi taking second.
