In a meet charged with emotion, energy, and more sugar than a chocolate milk mile, Hingham High boys track and field delivered a massive team victory over rival Marshfield High, doing it in the most meaningful way possible: together, and in honor of beloved coach Fred Jewett.
The Harbormen boys finished off an undefeated dual meet season with a 75-61 victory over the Rams. Marshfield was the winner on the girls side, 98.33-37.66.
Combined with Senior Day celebrations, this was not just a win, but a statement.
The boys came flying out of the blocks in the sprints, with Graham Carlson grabbing wins in the 100m (PR) and 200m and runner-up spots in the long jump and triple jump. Michael Blackwood stormed to second in the 100 with a PR of his own, while Jahbriel Johnson blazed through the 200 and 400, earning a win and second place.
Distance brought the same grit. Travis O’Neil dominated the 2-mile with a PR victory, Tommy Simpson battled to third in the 800, and Gavin Anderson doubled back with third-place finishes in both the mile (PR) and 2-mile.
The hurdles and jumps? Tristan Campbell was everywhere, winning the 110 hurdles and high jump with PR performances while apparently ignoring the concept of gravity. Nolan McManus snagged second in the 400 hurdles with a PR, Lundon Jackson added key points in third, and Josh Greisner soared to a win in triple jump plus a third-place finish in the long jump.
The 4x100 relay (Jack Griffiths, Jordan Johnson, Michael Blackwood, and Josh Greisner) flew around the track for a PR victory that had the home crowd erupting.
In the field events, Owen Bernard continued his season-long campaign of launching heavy objects into neighboring zip codes, winning both shot put and discus. Zach Wong grabbed first in javelin and third in shot put, while Alec Menuchi added a PR third-place finish in the discus.
What made the night special was not just the points on the scoreboard. It was the way every athlete contributed and worked together to support each other and set teammates up for success. Every sprint, every throw, every jump, every exhausted finish across the line carried a little extra meaning.
This meet showed what a team can look like when heart leads the way. For Coach Jewett, the boys brought the noise and a win to feel proud of.
The Harborwomen’s loss was highlighted by event victories, 30 personal records, six season best performances and impressive depth.
Senior captain Meghan Koenen led the way with a first place in the 400m hurdles in 1:09.93. They swept the event, with Madelyn Everett taking second in a personal best 1:12.16 and Caroline Newth placing third with a PR of 1:27.57.
In the throws, senior Zoe Schulze delivered one of the meet’s top performances, winning the javelin with a throw of 109-4 and also placing second in discus with an impressive 83-1 mark. Freshman Mary Zandbergen added a second-place finish in javelin (69-5). Classmate Elizabeth Beaulieu had a personal best throw of 55-1. Lauren Stone recorded a PR in discus with a throw of 65-11, while Caroline MacDonald threw a PR of 53-8. Christina McGrath and Corrina Berube also added discus PRs with marks of 39-4 and 38-10, respectively.

Additional personal records in the long jump came from Madeline Thorne (12-9), Skyla Austin (12-8), Abigail George (10-0), and Adeline Kelley (13-2.5).
The distance crew also turned in strong efforts. Gabriella Ferrara placed third in the two-mile in 13:44.67, while sophomore Samantha Jesson ran a personal best 13:45.30 for fourth place.
Several younger athletes continued to show tremendous development throughout the meet. Reagan Cassidy earned a personal best in the 100m hurdles, while freshman and sophomore athletes across the jumps and throws contributed valuable performances.
The meet also served as a celebration of Hingham’s seniors, whose leadership and dedication helped guide the program throughout the season. Next up is the Patriot League Championship on Tuesday, May 19 at Marshfield High.
