SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The No. 7 Angelo State University softball team swept a doubleheader against UT Tyler Friday night at Mayer Field.
ASU improved to 21-4 overall and 10-0 in the Lone Star Conference. UT Tyler, the defending national champion, dropped to 15-7 and 7-3.
The Belles won the first game 6-1, and took the nightcap 5-3.
Game 1 was knotted at 1-1 before ASU erupted with five runs in the sixth inning.
Belles starter Ashleigh Dendas drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the sixth. In the circle, she allowed just one hit and one earned run in 3.2 innings.
Reliever Addy Ewing finished things up to earn the win and improve to 6-0.
In Game 2, Tatianna Trotter hit a two-run home run in the first inning for the Belles.
The nightcap was tied 3-3 before ASU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Ewing (7-0) was the closer in Game 2, and she earned the win in that one as well.
The Belles return to action on Sunday when they host Texas Woman’s in a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 3:30 p.m.
