Los Angeles Dodgers utility player **** Hernandez will be out for a while after suffering a “significant” oblique tear, but there is already an idea of when he can return.

Hernandez is heading to the injured list as he aims for recovery from the oblique injury that he picked up before even stepping up to the plate for his first major league at-bat of the season.

According to the Puerto Rican, he felt the oblique issue before Monday’s game against the Colorado Rockies and decided to play through it because he didn’t think it was too serious.

However, two days and games later, the utility man is heading back on the injured list, where he started the season after going through elbow surgery.

According to multiple Dodgers beat reporters, the timeline for **** Hernandez is seemingly six to eight weeks, though it will come down to his soreness and how it responds to stress.

Dave Roberts did not offer a timeline when asked by reporters. While the team may seem closed off at times when revealing details, the trickiness of an oblique injury makes a clear return timeline hard to give.

While this is the initial outlook, there should be some solace in the fact that Hernandez will likely return before the end of the season.

It is a shame that it came after he started off so hot at the plate. He went 4-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, looking like a new hitter in the box and in postseason form early on.

Hopefully, he can keep the momentum going when he returns.

Reports are that Kiké could miss around 6-8 weeks, depending on when his symptoms subside.

**** Hernandez’s long road back to baseball

To his credit, Hernandez worked hard to rehabilitate his elbow, opting for surgery rather than playing in the World Baseball Classic and risking a more severe injury.

He played through it after coming back from the injured list late in 2025 and throughout the postseason, but he decided to finally fully address the problem and went under the knife for a successful procedure.

Hernandez was activated immediately upon his 60-Day IL stint expiring after going through multiple rehabilitation games in Oklahoma City.
