EAST LANSING — The baseball and softball finals came to an end this past weekend at Michigan State University. Locally, the Mendon softball team was able to repeat as Division 4 state champion, beating Brown City 6-2 in the title game on Saturday.
The Marcellus baseball team made it all the way to East Lansing as well, but ultimately fell to Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart 10-0 in the Division 4 state title game.
Each of those teams, plus more, were able to secure representation on the all-state squads for this past season.
In local prep baseball, three representatives earned their way onto the First Team All-State baseball roster. They were each on the Division 4 team.
Brody Block of White Pigeon, Brayden Crites of Mendon and Cale Hackenberg of Marcellus each were selected as First Team All-State.
Softball in the area this year was obviously strong with Mendon winning the state championship. Bronson also had a very successful season by reaching the Division 3 quarterfinals.
Mendon and Bronson led the local groups with four representatives.
For Bronson in Division 3, Braelynn Gimenez, Lydia Wells and Ashlynn Harris were all named First Teamers. Earning an honorable mention accolade for the year was Madison Shaw for the Vikings.
In Division 4, Mendon had four players named First Team All-State. Taya Bingaman, Jadyn Samson, Cienna Nightingale and Rowan Allen were the representatives for the Hornets.
Also in Division 4, Hannah Sharp of Marcellus was named First Team.
In Division 2 honors, London Hoffmaster of Three Rivers was also named First Team.
