BRONSON - With the close of the high school sports season in Michigan recently, there will be some time off for the summer month. In our final athlete of the week poll, which encompassed student-athletes from the previous handful of weeks to create more of a variety and selections, one local softball player ran away with the honors.
Bronson graduate Roni Bir, who will be attending Northern Michigan University beginning in the fall, was selected as the final winner of the season. The athlete of the week polls are proudly presented by our good friends at Glen Oaks Community College and will return once the MHSAA fall seasons kick off around mid-August.

ALL-STATE RECIPIENTS: Here are the local baseball and softball all-state recipients
There will also be two (2) polls being posted very soon in the baseball and softball players of the year. Those will also be sponsored by Glen Oaks and run concurrently beginning Friday morning.
Bir was nominated for athlete of the week honors after a nice moment in the softball regionals.
Bronson was trailing Kalamazoo Christian late in the game, but Bir connected on a grand slam to put the Vikings ahead for good and eventually was the game-winner despite the Comets making it close in the last inning.
There were more than 2,500 votes cast for the final athlete of the week honors. Bir collected 1,164 of those for better than 46 percent of the total tallies.
Lydia Wells of Bronson finished second with 355 votes at 14 percent while Brayden Fritz of Bronson was third at just over 10 percent of the vote.
Also nominated were Vivian Massey of Sturgis, Cale Hackenberg of Marcellus, Diannah Schwartz of Centreville and Rowan Allen of Mendon.
