ROCKFORD, IL — Despite road closures and how busy downtown Rockford is expected to be for the June 14 IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford, there should be plenty of parking options available on race day.
And virtually all of the options offer relatively short walks to prime viewing locations of the triathlon that draws competitors from around the United States.
The race includes a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run, which means area residents should expect plenty of traffic and road closures.
Last year's event drew an estimated 10,000 spectators in addition to the more than 2,280 athletes who participated.
If you want to plan where you are going to park for the IRONMAN, we got you covered.

Downtown Rockford parking decks all located west of the Rock River are a solid choice, offering easy access to great spectating spots for the race and lots of parking spaces.
The parking deck across from the Coronado Performing Arts Center is a best bet option, offering access via Jefferson Street from the east.
Event day parking on a Rockford deck is $5 all day.
211 S. Church St.: The BMO Center lot is a good choice for people arriving from the west or those who want easy access to the swim to bike transition area.
325 N. Main St.: The deck near the Coronado Performing Arts Center has easy access from Jefferson Street and easy access to good spectating locations.
301 W. State St.: Although easy access to all the race day action, this lot has restrictions. You must be in by 6:30 a.m. and can’t leave until 2 p.m.
Plenty of parking is offered on surface lots, especially along East State Street. They should allow easy access to great centralized viewing areas and easy departures heading east.
Here are some of the larger available lots:
160 S. Madison St.: Lot south of the old Capri Restaurant and Oak Street Health.
425 E. State St.: The Rockford City Hall lot should have easy parking available and would mean a short walk to the action.
200 Y Blvd: The SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA lot is available all day.
305 S. Madison Ave.: Sports Factory lot where volunteers are being encouraged to park.
