Hawaii surfers Eli Hanneman and Carissa Moore won their respective finals at the Florence Pipe Pro on Saturday at the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore.
Hanneman posted a two-wave score of 17.10 in the four-person, all-Hawaii men’s final. He was followed by John John Florence (15.90 ), Barron Mamiya (15.57 ) and Shion Crawford (12.86 ).
Moore scored a 16.66, and was followed by Gabriela Bryan (13.73 ), Ruby Berry (12.87 ) and Eweleiula Wong (7.00 ). Berry, of Australia, was the only surfer not from Hawaii.
Chaminade men lose first PacWest game The Chaminade men’s basketball team suffered its first PacWest loss of the season Saturday, falling to Westmont 77-58 in Santa Barbara, Calif.
Jarrett Bryant scored 18 points and Braedon Bigott added 16 for Westmont.
Kris King scored 11 points and twin brother Kent added nine for the Silverswords (6-5, 4-1 PacWest ).
The Warriors (6-4, 3-1 ) held a 46-24 advantage in points in the paint.—Jazmyn Shipp scored 19 points and Lisa Kiefer grabbed 17 rebounds as the Westmont women routed Chaminade 75-46.
Bailey Fong had 15 points and Mariah Brown added 13 for the Warriors (8-2, 4-0 PacWest ).
Westmont held a 53-22 rebounding advantage.
Holly Dolny had 11 points for the Silverswords (0-9, 0-5 ).
Colorado School of Mines women top HPU Jenna Shandy scored 16 points as the Colorado School of Mines women’s basketball team edged Hawaii Pacific 56-53 at the Hoops in Hawaii Classic on Saturday at St. Francis’ Shark Tank.
HPU’s Kyra Tanabe hit a free throw to tie it at 49-49 with 2 :48 left, but Colorado School of Mines went on a 7-2 run to take a five-point lead with 15 seconds to go.
Tanabe scored 20 points and Jalen Samuel added 12 for the Sharks (3-6 ).
The Orediggers improved to 5-8.
Vulcans men’s hoops team falls in Vegas Jah Nze scored 22 points, shooting 6-for-9 from 3-point range, as the Rollins men’s basketball team beat Hawaii Hilo 89-69 at the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Julio Montes II scored 17 points, and Alex Horiuk added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Vulcans (0-8 ).
The Tars improved to 7-4.
