Perhaps Mayne might be able to improve his trade value since several teams usually tend to acquire a defensive oriented catcher during the Trading Deadline....
Fetters certainly was a fan favorite and atleast he could help salvage some of the younger arms....
Two placed on DL, Fetters returns to majors
July 15, 2004 PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks placed right-hander Andrew Good and catcher Robby Hammock on the 15-day disabled list Thursday.
In corresponding moves, the club purchased the contract of reliever Mike Fetters from Triple-A Tucson and activated catcher Brent Mayne from the DL. Arizona also placed reliever Shane Reynolds (right knee) on the 60-day DL to open a 40-man roster spot for Fetters.
Good (1-2) appeared in 17 games, with two starts, before straining his right elbow. Hammock (left knee) has played in 47 games, hitting .213 with two home runs and 15 RBIs.
Fetters, 39, has seen time with eight major league teams and began his second tour with the Diamondbacks, who traded Duaner Sanchez to Pittsburgh to acquire him on July 6, 2002.
Fetters appeared in 33 games for the Diamondbacks in 2002, going 2-3 with a 5.11 ERA. He signed with Minnesota in January 2003 and appeared in five games before having ligament surgery on his right elbow Aug. 8.
Arizona signed him to a minor league contract on June 21 and assigned him to Tucson.
Mayne has been rehabilitating a back strain since June 9.
