BLUEFIELD, Va. (WJHL) — Billy Wagner’s Hall of Fame career was celebrated Saturday as the Bluefield Ridge Runners honored the former Tazewell High School standout with a bobblehead giveaway before hosting the Johnson City Doughboys.

The seven-time MLB All-Star and Hall of Fame closer, one of the few relief pitchers enshrined in Cooperstown, took in the festivities in his hometown.

“I mean, it’s Billy Wagner Bobblehead Day! How many times can I say that in my own hometown?” Wagner said.

The celebration came before Johnson City spoiled the occasion on the field, surging to a 22-4 victory over the Ridge Runners.
