Minersville 17, Selinsgrove 5

Minersville picked up a blowout win over the Selinsgrove Seals on Saturday, 17-5.

After trailing 2-0 following the top of the first inning, the Battlin’ Miners exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning before scoring two in the second, and five in the third.

The Battlin’ Miners totaled 18 hits in the game, including four extra-base hits.

Both Sara McGrath and Eila O’Brien were 3-for-4 at the plate for Minersville with a pair of runs batted in, while Paige Laudeman and Rilynn Brennan both were 3-for-3, Laudeman collecting three RBI while Brennan recorded one.

O’Brien got the start on the mound for Minersville, allowing four runs in four innings before making way for Cali Laudeman to close out the ball game in the fifth.

Pine Grove 14, Whitehall 0

The defending Class 3A state champions continue to look the part, starting the season with another blowout win, this time 14-0 over Whitehall.

Callee Leffler was 3-for-4 with three RBI, thanks to a double and triple. Lily Flynn had three hits of her own in the game, driving in three, while Meadow Umbenhauer was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

The Cardinals combined for 16 hits and two walks in the win.

Jamie Dinger was on the mound for Pine Grove, pitching seven shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out 10.
