Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez was held out of Tuesday’s lineup against the New York Mets due to a sore wrist. The Guardians are being especially cautious, as Ramirez just returned in late July after previously undergoing hamate surgery. The good news is that the situation does not seem to be too serious. However, the seven-time All-Star third baseman is once again out of the lineup on Wednesday.

The Guardians designated infielder Gabriel Arias for assignment and promoted infielder Angel Genao for his MLB debut on Wednesday. Genao is hitting ninth and starting at third base with Ramirez out of the lineup.

Manager Stephen Vogt believes Ramirez needs another day of rest, via Zack Meisel of The Athletic.

“José Ramírez’s sore wrist is improving, but Stephen Vogt said he needs one more day,” Meisel reported.

It goes without saying, but the fact that Ramirez’s wrist is improving is an encouraging sign. Still, Vogt and the Guardians obviously want to avoid rushing him back too soon. Cleveland will need Ramirez available down the stretch of the season and in the postseason if the ball club wants to make a serious run.

Jo Adell and Nathaniel Lowe — who were both acquired at the MLB trade deadline — are starting for the Guardians and hitting third and fourth in the lineup. Both players made their Guardians debuts on Tuesday, but this will be the first start for Lowe — who pinch-hit during the team’s 6-2 loss on Tuesday.

Cleveland will host New York in Game 2 of the series on Wednesday night at 6:40 PM ET.
