As I mentioned earlier, I was always suspicious of this as I never read any specific denials from her or her support group.

Or...... this could be just some sort of deal that the Russians gave her that will save face for them and minimize Griner's time in jail.

Most evidence points to the former, methinks.

What you need to know is in the Russian criminal system, no deals can happen without a guilty plea first. Their system is VERY different from ours. I would not read a whole lot into a guilty plea.

an awful situation
tragic for her to be jailed in Russia for years for a minor offense -- which is legal in the U.S.
and yet, it would make the situation even worse for Americans if her celebrity status leads us to give Russia what they want from us. It leads to more Americans being jailed for exchanges and kidnapped for ransoms around the world

unfortunately, the only functional solution is to not do business with tyrants and try to stay out of their country

US is offering a Russian who has served 14 years of a 25 year sentence in exchange for Brittney and Paul Whelan

She did end up getting sentenced to nine years. But it sounds like the prisoner trade to release her is still likely to happen.
