He’s been a media mainstay in the valley since 1979 but you can’t tell the story of the Diamondbacks without mentioning his impact on the franchise. One of the best play by play radio guys in the league in his prime. He’s been struggling with some health issues but toughed it out for one more year. Anyone who grew up here will always recognize and appreciate that voice. Thanks for your years or service and enjoy retirement, Gub'nuh.

Greg is a great guy, him and my Uncle are good friends. As a kid in the early 80s I used to roll into my Uncles barber shop and Greg would always ask me my thoughts were about ASU football.

He did a fantastic job over the years. Didn't know about his health issues. He and his wife are about to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

Indeed... great play by play announcer. Sad that Phoenix sports loses both him and Al McCoy in the same year.

As a sidebar, I never knew until recently that he was in his 70s. I don't recall ever seeing his photo, but just heard him on the radio. And he always sounded younger to me, so I just assumed he was maybe in his late 40s or 50s at the oldest at this point.

Greg did color in the early 80's for ASU with Tom Dillon on play by play. He also worked with Al McCoy giving stats to Al during the games i believe early on?

Sad to see these iconic voices that we grew up with (Al McCoy as well) are over. I would always love putting radio onto 620 or 98.7 and know that we will be feeling like we were at the game with how good these 2 were at describing every detail of each pitch/hit/shot and Shazamm! They are without a doubt going to be missed from every die hard Az sports fan!
