Really in thinking about it objectively as I can here is the keys to the future as I see it.
Graves:
First question is he free to spend money... he says yes remains to be seen.
Second question is he good enough at his job to turn this around even if he can spend the money.. again don't know yet.
He seems to be making some smart moves he resigned Thompson and Player not world beater moves but still a good step in the right direction.
He got the rookies in on time with market deals and for this team that is an accomplishment without which it would be even more dreadful than it is.
He hasn't extended anyone that I would consider marginal yet I think he is working with Shelton that is good news but I am sure Shelton isn't exactly thrilled with this team.
My point is the GM has to think long term and he is so that gives me hope. He was proved right to some extent on Boston et al except Plummer but even so he would'nt have been any good here for the money so that was a good move in my book anyway.
Pace and Johnson may not equal Suggs maybe they will to early to tell yet but so far this isn't his most ringing move.
Apparently he wanted rid of Marmie and Greene again a good sign should have followed through but can you blame him most people loved Mac and at the time wouldn't have been too thrilled with that.
I think he was besides himself after the Rams game because he probably saw the same stuff he hates trotted out there again and was fuming about being too soft on Mac and letting this happen again. I think that is a good sign too.
We have gaping holes but all the cap room in the world to fix it. The Oline needs to be shod of Clement and move big to his spot and we need a couple of guards that are luckily one of the easiest spots to fill in FA there is.
We are soon to feature 3 high picks on our Dline, possibly a FA CB at the very least we get Starks back and someone needs to either sit Wilson or coach his stupidity out of him.
The team isn't good but isn't that bad either it can all be fixed to respectibility in one offseason and rounded into a playoff team in two.
The biggest difference I see from the past is that we are actively trying to keep talent here that we want to stay. So far other than Shelton no one is left hanging that I think should be locked up and they are working on that.
It is always darkest before the dawn and all yada yada yada but bottom line I have seen changes for the better that haven't paid off yet. Graves is the answer let's just hope it's a good one.
No one else is going to get Bidwill to trust him that much for eons so pray that Graves is really good or we all can buy stock in bag companies.
