After acquiring Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the 2024-25 season, Hield was a solid contributor off the bench, averaging 11.1 points in 22.7 minutes. Entering his second season with Golden State this year, the Warriors were expecting similar numbers from the former NBA 3-point contest champion.
However, Hield uncharacteristically struggled shooting the ball. In 44 games with the Warriors during the 2025-26 season, Hield shot career-lows from 3-point range (34.4%) and the free-throw line (79.4%). This along with his defensive shortcomings led to Golden State dumping his salary at the trade deadline in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis. There the former Oklahoma Sooner barely found the floor, making only seven appearances. Although his shooting numbers were better in Atlanta, Hield's lack of playing time led to a career-low 7.6 points per game on the season. Looking ahead to next year, Hield will be 34 and has two years remaining on his current contract.
