While the Jets are hoping to add a game-changing talent on Thursday night in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, GM Darren Mougey made it clear that the team is also anticipating keeping three of its premier young players in the building for at least an additional season.

Speaking to the media on Monday morning, Mougey said he anticipates picking up the fifth-year options for all three of the club’s 2022 first-round picks: Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson.

"We have time to make that decision, but I do anticipate exercising those fifth-year options on those players," Mougey said.

This, of course, is the expected move, as all three players have proven to be difference-makers for a Gang Green team looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2010 season.

And while the fifth-year option would guarantee all three players would be under contract through the 2026 season, Gardner, Wilson, and Johnson are all also now eligible for long-term extensions.

"I’m going to get through the draft, but in terms of contracts and extensions on any players, I’ll always keep that in house and we’ll keep those dealings and those discussions in house," the GM explained.

Gardner, even after what could be considered a down season in 2024, has already established himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2022 and 2023.

Wilson, meanwhile has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in all three of his pro seasons, despite some inconsistent play at the quarterback position over that span. Both Wilson and Gardner won their respective Rookie of the Year awards in 2023.

As for Johnson, the edge rusher had a breakout season in 2023, racking up 7.5 sacks to earn a Pro Bowl nod, but 2024 was a lost season for the Florida State product, as a torn Achilles ended his season just two games into the campaign.
