The New England Patriots are set to take on the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game. The Broncos have a stellar defense that features playmakers at multiple positions. So for this week's Gimme Him player, I am going with linebacker Nik Bonitto.
The two-time Pro Bowl defender was a key playmaker for the Broncos' defense throughout the season. He recorded 46 tackles, 14 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass deflection. His elite pressure rate is a major problem for opposing offenses.
The best game for Bonitto came back in October when he registered 2.5 sacks against Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
This isn't a flash-in-the-pan season, either. Bonitto recorded 13.5 sacks and earned his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2024. The arrow has continued to point upwards on the former University of Oklahoma standout defender.
The Patriots have done a better job of generating pressure on opposing quarterbacks in the playoffs. They got to Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert six times, and they recorded three sacks on Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud in the divisional playoff game.
Adding a player with Bonitto's talent would take things to another level.
With that said, the Broncos recently signed him to a four-year extension worth up to $120 million with $70 million in guaranteed money. It's safe to say Bonitto is going to be a Bronco for the foreseeable future.
