Here is our New York Giants NFL Draft Tracker as we round out the weekend, following each move as it happens…
THROWING DARTS The first draft pick general manager Joe Schoen made on Thursday was Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. As the draft’s top pass rusher and a standout prospect, the Giants can be confident they added their third true blue-chip talent to the roster.
However, his most important pick of the night came a few hours later.
Schoen traded his second-round pick (No. 34), a third-round compensatory pick (No. 99), and a 2026 third-round pick to the Houston Texans for No. 25 and the rights to draft Mississippi quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The move is the administration’s first pivot to a real franchise quarterback, and it’s the swing head coach Brian Daboll has been waiting for. Needless to say, their fates could very well be intertwined in East Rutherford.
Dart won’t start right away, and that’s OK. He’s set to have a redshirt season sitting behind veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, learning the offense as he makes the massive leap from Lane Kiffin’s offense to Daboll’s scheme.
THE DEX AND THE DARIUS Adding Carter to the defensive line made New York’s unit one of the best pass rushes in the league. But it wouldn’t be truly complete without a starting defensive tackle next to Dexter Lawrence.
On Friday, the Giants found that in Toledo defensive tackle Darius Alexander.
We correctly predicted this one in our final seven-round mock draft.
“Alexander’s name has been a consistent presence in Day 2 discussions, and his blend of pass-rushing upside and run-stopping competency is easy to buy into. He’s an elite athlete at an important position, and New York needs another strong defensive tackle to complement Dexter Lawrence.
“He may be a second-round talent, but production, level of competition, and age concerns could very well push him to Round 3.”
His ability to take advantage of the double teams Lawrence and his pass-rushing peers find could make him an invaluable piece to the 2025 pass rush. Expect him to start from the jump.
