Will New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. break out in 2026?
Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports believes so, listing Tracy Jr. as the Giants’ under-the-radar breakout star candidate for the upcoming season.
Tracy Jr. rushed for 740 yards and two touchdowns last season for the Giants while playing behind Skattebo for much of the first half of the year. The Purdue product previously rushed for 839 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie in 2024 and has been an effective target in the passing game throughout his career.
While Tracy Jr. has already come close to rushing for 1,000 yards in his young career, securing enough workload to reach that mark in 2026 will be a challenge. Skattebo is expected to return from injury as the starter.
It will likely take either hitting that 1,000-yard milestone or having a big year in the receiving game for Tracy Jr. to truly distinguish himself as a breakout star.

Quick! Name the three Giants to record at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage in each of their first two NFL seasons. Saquon Barkley, yes. Odell Beckham Jr., yes. The third? That's right: Tyrone Tracy Jr. He watched Cam Skattebo take over the lead role in the backfield last year before Skattebo got hurt, and then Tracy came back and showed his talent as a runner and a pass catcher. He had 269 yards from scrimmage in a two-game span when the Giants played the Packers and the Lions tough, and he finished the year with a 159-yard day against the Cowboys. Mostly a wide receiver in college, Tracy is continuing to improve as a runner. He'll get to show that, especially if Skattebo's recovery from a gruesome leg injury leaks into the season or limits him in general.
