It’s time to start preparing for the 2026 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 3 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Darnell Stokes, Jr
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Freshman
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 185 lbs.
Hometown: Seaford, DE
High School: Indian River
2025 stats:
Was named to Delaware’s First Team at both wide receiver and defensive back. Had over 1,000 yards of offense and 16 touchdowns in a season where he filled in at running back.
2026 projections:
A big time athlete, Stokes starts on defense and appears to have the size to find himself playing safety. Will be interesting to see if he find himself in the returner competition as he makes plays with the ball in his hands.
How’d he get here?:
Chose Syracuse over offers which included Rutgers, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.
What’d recruiting sites say?:
Consensus three-star and ranked as the 3rd-best player from Delaware and top 50 athlete in the class.

Interesting nugget o’interest:
Indian River is located in Dagsboro Delaware, which is home to Prince George’s Chapel which was built in 1755. It is one of the oldest churches in America.
