The Georgia Bulldogs will return forward Kanon Catchings for the 2026-2027 college basketball season. Georgia needed Catchings to return after having three starters from last season's team (guards Jordan Ross and Jeremiah Wilkinson and center Somto Cyril) announce their plans to transfer. Georgia has six players that are entering the transfer portal.
The Bulldogs are also losing guard Justin Bailey and forward Justin Abson, who are both out of eligibility. Georgia and coach Mike White are going to have to hit the transfer portal hard even with Catchings returning.
Catchings' return is big for Georgia. The Bulldogs are looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive year. Georgia will return two of their four leading scorers (at least) with Catchings and Marcus "Smurf Millender" returning. Georgia is awaiting a decision from Blue Cain. The Bulldogs will also return rotation player Kareem Stagg.
Last season, Catchings averaged 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He shot 42.3% from the field and 37.6% from three-point territory.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward has two seasons of eligibility left. Catchings is a former top-50 recruit and has a lot of upside. He started his college basketball career at BYU before transferring to Georgia for the 2025-2026 season.
However, Catchings, like much of Georgia's team, did not play well in March Madness. He was held scoreless in Georgia's defeat to Saint Louis. Catchings closed the season strongly and was averaging 24.7 points per game over his last three games entering the NCAA Tournament, so his March Madness performance came as a surprise.
