deGrom's ERA is two runs less than Kelly, but his record is only 8-8. Kelly's is 10-13.

We need to score today. If not off deGrom to get an early lead, then later in the game
as we have a knack of doing . . . sometimes.

'Glad to see our catcher moved from 8th to 6th in the lineup, and not right ahead of
the pitcher. I've hoped for that for months. I hope it lasts. For both catchers.

With a leadoff type hitter batting 8th, we'll have a better chance to extend the at-bat
plus have a fast runner on 1B for a sacrifice. I hope it is not just a 1-game whim.

Archie's 9th inning needs to be kept no worse than his usual two runners, neither of
whom scores. :)

I could swear BB said that we don't want to face the Mets bullpen.
But later he said that we need to get deGrom's pitch count up.

Cy Young winner pitching. Great bullpen? And deGrom is getting the
outside call as strikes. Hmmm!

Maybe Locastro can give a quick HBP course to the hitters.

deGrom strikes out the side and leaves a bloop hit by Rojas on 1B
to start the game.

Alonso with his 46th HR with one out in the 1st. He set
a Mets all-time record and a new NL rookie record.

As they just said in the booth, just about every player
in the Major Leagues is going to set a high for power.

I hope the MLB powers that be are enjoying records
that are unfair to the history of baseball.

The Mets played their longest regulation game in
history yesterday. 4:29. And the Reds recently
did the same.

I guess it ties in with the power records being
broken with the juiced ball.

Boy, that home plate umpire, Gabe Morales, according to gamecast, has called several strikes way wide. At least against the Dbacks.

Right from the start of the game.

Cy Young winners get the calls.

Baseball needs the electronic
ball-and-strike caller.

Hopefully, its testing at the
Minor League level is working.

Another collision with Ahmed by a D-backs 2B.

Recently it was Rojas, switched to 2B from LF
during the game.

Now, Flores, one of our three primary 2B.

We need Flores' hot bat. I just hope it doesn't
lead to an injury in the field.

Kelly's curve ball didn't curve and the Mets
single in their second run. 2-0 after four.

D-backs have two hits.

Flores heard me. A solo HR to lead off the 5th.

His 6th HR in his last 16 games.

Dyson draws a walk with 2 outs to clear the pitcher's spot.

He also stole 2B and advanced to 3B on a throwing error,
but was left there.

Nevertheless, the pitcher won't be leading off the 6th.

Mets with a double in the 7th. 2 outs. And Alonso is up, with his two HR's.

Crichton in to pitch and strikes him out. Still 3-1 Mets.

Avila is now catching for the D-backs on a double switch.

New pitcher for the Mets to start the 8th.

And Avila strikes out on three pitches to end the inning.

For the second time this game, Torey plays a 5-man infield against Mets catcher Ramos.

For the second time this game, Ramos beats the shift, with a double and single.

This over-managing is getting out of hand.

What's next? Sending C-3PO and R2-D2 up to pinch hit? ;)

D-backs lose 3-1, with just three hits.
A 1-2-3 9th.

Their hitters haven't looked like they
want to reach the Wild Card for quite
a while.

As Steve said, they've gone AWOL.

Even Marte struck out four times today.

That's the problem with rising above .500 so
late in the season. Playing catchup catches
up with you when you're competing for the
last Wild Card spot.

Lineups should have been set much earlier in
the season.

Dbacks dropped to 2.5 games back and Milwaukee jumped in front of them. Not a good night
