The draft value chart provides a general guideline and is not something written in stone.
Say the Cards had Baker valued as a low first round pick on their BPA board. They could negotiate around that value and not necessarily around the pick exchange. From the outside with only the draft value chart it looks as if the Cards got snookered in the trade. From the Cards perspective, they got a 1st round guy for cheap. . . they got the better end of the deal.
Got to know the draft value a team has on a player and not just the math based on the draft value chart to appreciate if they made a good trade.
That’s great in theory but what if the teen you’re trading with Haddam valued as a low second rounder or mid second rounder than your theory goes right out the window about having negotiating value...
