It was a career day for Florida State softball's (37-6, 11-1) pitcher Jazzy Francik in her fifth start.
The freshman threw a career-high 12 strikeouts on 99 pitches for the ninth-ranked Seminoles to shut out St. Mary's College (19-18, 2-1), 3-0 on Wednesday.
It was her first complete game of the season. With the 12 Ks, Francik allowed just three hits and no walks. Two of those three hits came in the seventh inning.
The defense also came through by leaving two runners on base to end the final inning in a shutout. Francik improved to 7-2.
At the plate, FSU was challenged by SMC's starting pitcher, Mia Nishikawa. She also had a career-best by striking out seven batters. Yet, the Seminoles were able to produce three runs on seven hits.
FSU was in control in the opening inning when it scored its first two runs by a pair of RBI singles by Kennedy Harp and Jahni Kerr.
Katie Dack hit a solo home run five innings later to extend FSU's lead to three. Kerr, who was named ACC's Player of the Week, was the only Seminole with two hits. Harp, Dack, Angelee Bueno and Annabelle Widra each had one.
FSU will head to Berkeley for a three-game series against Cal (,27-11, 6-6) beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
