Florida State Softball (35-6, 10-1)was down but not out. After being shut out in game one against Virginia (26-11, 7-6) on Friday, FSU responded with a come-from-behind victory over the Cavaliers, 9-8 in front of a crowd of 1400 at the Seminole Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

"It was kid if their opportunity to take control of their team and destiny," FSU coach Lonni Alameda said.

"So I think today was a learning lesson like you can worry about the outcome or just go and compete, and I think when kicked in the compete mode, things happened for us."

After two scoreless innings, UVA was on the board with four runs in the fourth inning, three more in the third and one in the fifth.

FSU overcame a 7-1 deficit by outscoring the Cavaliers 8-1 in the final three innings. FSU was only down by one run in the bottom six with two outs left.

UVA's pitcher, Eden Bigham, who had six strikeouts in game one, was on the circle. Kennedy Harp hit a two-run homer for FSU to take its first lead. Harp learned from facing Bigham and what she is capable of.

"Honestly, it's just taking one pitch at a time," Harp said.

"I know she is a great pitcher. Just staying in my process and getting my foot down. I think it gives mean a chance and get through a ball. So just doing whatever I can or my team. "

The defense handled the rest. After a struggling day from FSU's starting pitcher Julia Apsel and a relieved pitcher Ashtyn Danley, freshman Jazzy Francik took over in the fourth inning.

"So for Jazzy to come and give us a good look that was huge for us," Alameda said. "For her to have the poise there as a freshman was big for us too."

Her only strikeout pitch sparked the Seminoles. She became the winning pitcher at 6-2. In the last 3.1 innings, she allowed only two hits, a run, a walk and an error. A lot of learning good lessons in this time of year

Another highlighted defensive play was left-fielder Addie Delong's diving catch that gave UVA its third out and left two runners on while FSU trailed 8-5.
