FSU Seminoles starter Trey Beard has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. He is the first Florida State baseball player to be recognized by the conference this season.

Beard had a phenomenal start against Wake Forest on Saturday, striking out a career-high 14 batters in 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The lefty allowed just one hit and one walk as the Seminoles won 2-0.

The FAU transfer has made three starts for the Seminoles, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings. He is holding opponents to a .111 batting average, the best in the ACC. He also ranks in the top 10 in ERA, hits allowed (7), runs allowed (5), and walks (5).

Beard has been a key part of FSU's rotation, which is led by Wes Mendes, who has also been one of the best pitchers in the conference. Mendes also had a case to be the ACC's Pitcher of the Week after pitching seven shutout innings against Wake Forest on Friday. He allowed two hits and two walks, striking out 11 batters.

The Seminoles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Bethune-Cookman at Dick Howser Stadium. They will play another ranked series this weekend when they host the No. 13 NC State Wolfpack.
