PORTLAND, OR - AUGUST 04: Head coach Josep Guardiola of Muenchen jokes with Thierry Henry of MLS All-Stars and Franck Ribery of Muenchen during a press conference prior to the friendly match between the MLS Allstars and FC Bayern Muenchen at day six of the Audi Summer Tour USA 2014 on August 4, 2014 in Portland, United States. Thierry Henry spoke to SI Germany recently and was asked about Bayern Munich.

Henry spoke highly of the German Rekordmeister, saying, “I’ve always admired FC Bayern for how the club is run. Former players like Franck Ribéry, Willy Sagnol, and Bixente Lizarazu spoke very highly of Bayern, the club, the fans, and the mentality – basically everything. If you look at the players they sign, it’s not always about big names. They bring in footballers who fit their identity. That’s precisely why it works. They say to themselves: This player might be great, but not for FC Bayern. Or, this coach is good, but not the right one for our club. They stay true to their philosophy, I admire that.” (as recorded by @iMiaSanMia)

This is high praise from the World Cup and UEFA Champions League champion. Henry recognizes the Mia San Mia mentality of Bayern. While a lot of critics and neutrals of Bayern only focus on Bayern “poaching” the rest of the Bundesliga teams of talent, he focuses on what makes Bayern successful: its identity.
