San Francisco (7-12) avoided a three-game series sweep at Cincinnati (11-8) with a, 3-0, win on Thursday. The series finale was contested at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Former Vol Chase Burns started for the Reds and pitched six innings. He totaled four strikeouts and 87 pitches, including 54 strikes, against 18 batters. Burns allowed two hits, one walk and zero runs. The Giants hit six ground balls and five fly balls against him.
Former Vol Drew Gilbert also started in the series finale at center field for San Francisco. He went 0-for-2 and walked once.
Gilbert played for the Vols from 2020-22. He appeared in 141 games (134 starts) as a batter and 11 contests as a relief pitcher, compiling a 2-0 record. Gilbert recorded a .314 batting average, 22 home runs, 140 RBIs and 116 runs at Tennessee.
Burns played at Tennessee from 2022-23 and appeared in 35 games, including 22 starts. He recorded 217 strikeouts and compiled a 13-5 record, while totaling two saves.
