San Francisco (8-12) opened a three-game series at Washington (9-11) on Friday. The Giants won the series opener, 10-5, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Two former Vols played in Game 1 for the Giants.
Drew Gilbert started in center field for San Francisco and went 1-for-3. He hit one home run and totaled one RBI, two runs and one walk.
Blade Tidwell pitched one inning in relief for the Giants. He did not allow a hit, run or walk, while totaling 10 pitches (four strikes) against three batters. The Nationals hit one ground out and one fly out against Tidwell.
Former Tennessee baseball signee Brady House also started at third base for Washington in Game 1. He went 0-for-5 and recorded one RBI.
House was selected No. 11 overall in the first round of the 2021 MLB draft by Washington. He committed to the Vols and head coach Tony Vitello in June 2018. House was the No. 1 overall prospect in 2021, according to Perfect Game, when he committed to the Vols.
Vitello is in his first season as San Francisco's manager. He served as Tennessee's head coach from 2018-25.
