The 2026 Texas A&M basketball season will ultimately be remembered as an undeniable success. Even with a lopsided loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the Aggies exceeded every external expectation under first‑year head coach Bucky McMillan.

A roster built from scratch, players who had never shared a locker room, much less a system, managed to gel quickly enough to become one of the surprise stories of the year. That momentum now carries into a pivotal offseason.

Unfortunately, one of the key contributors to that rise has decided to finish his college career elsewhere.

Multiple reports indicate that senior guard Pop Isaacs will enter the transfer portal after his lone season in Aggieland. Nothing is official until paperwork is signed, but this possibility was always on the table, given his career arc. At his previous two stops, Isaacs averaged roughly 31 minutes per game. That number dropped to 22 minutes at A&M, largely a byproduct of McMillan’s system, which relies on deep rotations to fuel his full‑court pressure defense.

With fewer minutes came a dip in scoring production. Isaacs’ points per game fell from 14.5 to 9.8, a natural consequence of coming off the bench and sharing touches in a more balanced, pace‑driven scheme. For a guard whose identity is rooted in scoring, it’s understandable he may seek a program where he can return to a featured role and log closer to 30 minutes per night.

Even so, Isaacs delivered the most efficient shooting season of his career. He posted career highs in field‑goal percentage (.422) and three‑point percentage (.396), providing steady perimeter production for a team that needed every bit of it during its unexpected rise.
