The Florida State Seminoles have landed former South Carolina pitcher Alex Philpott out of the transfer portal. He announced his commitment Monday on social media.
Philpott, who is from Tampa, spent the first two years of his career with the Florida Gators before transferring to South Carolina ahead of the 2026 season. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is eligible for the 2026 MLB Draft, but seems unlikely to be taken.
He played in 16 games last season, making one start. He recorded a 6.51 ERA over 27.2 innings, going 0-5 with three saves. He allowed 20 runs on 27 hits and 15 walks, striking out 19 and hitting four. His best outing of the year came against Mississippi State, when he pitched four shutout innings, his longest outing of the season.
The righty appeared in 36 games during his two years with Florida, making six starts and recording two saves. He had a 7.12 ERA in 72 innings, going 5-6. Opponents hit .275 off him, scoring 57 runs on 72 hits and 34 walks. The 6-foot-6, 200-pounder had 72 strikeouts and has some experience against FSU.
He played the Seminoles five times, allowing 19 runs in 9.2 innings. FSU scored at least one run in all five outings, including scoring three or more in four of them.
Philpott is the third pitcher that Link Jarrett has landed out of the portal this offseason, joining Cayden Suchy and Sebastian Lippman. They have also landed outfielder Ty Peeples and designated hitterJackson McKenzie.
