Former New England Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan officially announced his retirement from the NFL on social media.
That news brought an end to a nearly decade-long run for the former Ohio State standout defender. McMillan, a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, spent three seasons with the Miami Dolphins before he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.
He'd go on to sign a deal with the Patriots in 2021. Major injuries, including a torn ACL and torn Achilles, limited his opportunities in New England. However, when healthy, he was a reliable rotational defender for the team, appearing in 25 games and even earning five starts.
"Always for the name on the back of my jersey! 8 years flew by but this next chapter is going to be my best chapter. I hope I made y’all proud!" McMillan posted on Instagram.
McMillan finished his NFL career with 285 tackles, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four pass deflections and 15 tackles for a loss. The fact that he was able to overcome multiple season-ending injuries and still contribute at a high level should be celebrated in its own right.
And now, it's on to the next chapter for the former Patriot.
