Unfortunately for Notre Dame baseball, it has become a feeder program for the SEC, and on Wednesday another former star has opted to play for the conference.

Last year catcher Carson Tinney made the jump, leaving South Bend to play for the Texas Longhorns. That move paid off over the weekend, as he led his new team to the College World Series. Bino Watters is hoping for a similar outcome, as Zack Nagy is reporting that the star outfielder has committed to the LSU Tigers.

It’s hard to blame both of Notre Dame best players for leaving, as the Irish have struggled to be a consistent program since Link Jarrett left to take over his alma mater Florida State. Early in the season it looked like Notre Dame was contending for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but it faltered late, as the competition got much tougher when the ACC portion of the schedule started.

Hopefully the Irish can find an adequate replacement for Watters, as they did with Tinney in transfer Mark Quatrani. The All-ACC outfielder was trending towards becoming a top pick in the MLB draft, but it won’t be as a member of Notre Dame’s team when he hears his name getting called next year.
