As expected, the New Orleans Pelicans plan to decline Kevon Looney's $8 million team option, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. A No. 30 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Kevon Looney spent 10 seasons with the Warriors from 2015 to 2025, winning three championships.
However, after moving to a new team last summer, things didn't quite go as planned for the former UCLA man. Looney averaged 2.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 14.7 minutes per game. It didn't take long for the Pelicans to give up on the 11-year pro, relegating him to just 21 appearances throughout the year. To complicate matters even further, New Orleans added another veteran center, DeAndre Jordan, in October after the season had already begun.
Now back on the free agent market, Looney will likely be a depth signing for a team in need of a rebounder. It has yet to be revealed whether or not Golden State could be interested in a reunion.
