A former Mansfield High football standout is taking his talents up north to La Belle Province.

On Monday, July 6, the CFL's Montreal Alouettes announced the signing of defensive lineman TJ Guy via a press release. No further details of the contract were released.

The 2021 Mansfield High graduate is coming off a five-year career at the University of Michigan, during which he recorded 66 tackles (36 of which were solo), 12.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, an interception and a pass defended in 48 games for the Wolverines. The latter two stats came last fall during his graduate season, during which he also served as an alternate captain.

Originally from Brockton, Guy excelled for the Hornets under legendary longtime coach Mike Redding, helping guide Mansfield to a 42-0 win over Lincoln-Sudbury in the 2019 MIAA Division 2 Super Bowl. He also was a key contributor on the basketball court, averaging a team third-best 13.4 points per game as a junior to help the Hornets to a third straight Hockomock Kelley-Rex crown.

Committing to Michigan as a three-star recruit, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Guy became an established part of the Wolverine defensive line, largely being deployed as an edge rusher. He was part of Michigan's 2023 CFP National Championship winning squad, playing special teams as the Wolverines beat Washington 34-13 for the program's 10th national title (or 12th as claimed by the program) and first since 1997. In 2024, he was chosen as the Wolverines' Most Improved Player on Defense.

Guy signed with the Baltimore Ravens, whose general manager is Taunton native Eric DeCosta, as an undrafted free agent on April 25, but was never rostered.

He now heads to Montreal to join an Alouettes squad off to a hot start, going 3-1 to lead the East Division with a game advantage over longtime rivals the Toronto Argonauts. The Als are looking to make it back to the Grey Cup after falling 25-17 to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 112th edition last November. Montreal last won it all in 2023 with a dramatic 28-24 comeback win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Alouettes return to action on Saturday, July 11, hosting the Calgary Stampeders (2-2) for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Molson Stadium, located on the campus of McGill University. The game will be aired on the CBS Sports Network and can be streamed on the CBS Sports app.
