For the New York Jets, the 2025 campaign has been full of frustration due to a 3-12 record. While the focus has shifted to building for 2026 and beyond, there have been a few bright spots. That includes former Longhorn star Adonai Mitchell, who, since arriving via trade, has been an important piece of the offense.
In six games with the Jets this season, the former second-round pick has hauled in 21 passes for 279 yards. While averaging 13.3 yards per catch, Mitchell has found the end zone twice, which is a career high. After struggling to find consistency with the Colts, the talented 23-year-old has flashed his collegiate form.
Prior to the trade, Mitchell had appeared in eight games and only recorded 152 receiving yards. As Daniel Jones put together a stellar start to the season, Mitchell struggled to separate himself in an offense that includes Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, and talented rookie tight end Tyler Warren. That is partly why the Colts were willing to part with the Texas native less than two years into his NFL career.
As Mitchell looks to end the regular season strong, he hopes to show that his recent success is no fluke. The Jets offense has a lot of questions, including at quarterback, where three players have attempted at least 90 passes this year. The constant change has not made life easy for an offense that could see dramatic changes during the offseason.
Through the first 31 games of his NFL career, Mitchell has been productive, recording 53 catches for 743 yards. That is not a bad stat line so far with two games remaining in the 2025 campaign. Next year, he will be in a good position to build on his success as he looks to stand out in an offense that is in need of another star alongside Garrett Wilson.
