The New York Jets have remained committed to developing wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who arrived in the Sauce Gardner blockbuster with the Indianapolis Colts at the NFL trade deadline. It had been tough sledding in his first two games. On Sunday, the Jets' commitment to Mitchell paid off in their 27-24 Week 13 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Mitchell recorded just three receptions on 13 targets in his first two appearances with the Jets. That means the former Texas Longhorns standout caught less than 25 percent of his balls thrown in his direction across Weeks 11 and 12. Mitchell put those struggles behind him against the Falcons, recording eight catches on a team-high 12 targets for 102 yards and a touchdown.

Mitchell's touchdown was a 52-yard bomb from quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Mitchell got behind Falcons cornerback Mike Hughes in quarters coverage. The explosive touchdown arrived in the third quarter and tied the game at 14 apiece.

Mitchell abused Hughes in coverage all afternoon. Mitchell caught seven passes for 97 yards and a touchdown when matched up against Hughes, according to Next Gen Stats. That is tied for the most catches and fourth-most yards of any receiver against a single defender in a contest this campaign.

It was the first 100-yard receiving game of Mitchell's career. The Jets may have found a gem in Mitchell, who performed like a potential long-term solution at WR2 opposite Garrett Wilson moving forward. The Jets' commitment to the young receiver paid dividends on Sunday.
