Gainesville High School has found its next football coach.
Ashour Peera, who previously served as Florida’s Director of Football Logistics under former coach Billy Napier, was introduced as the next leader of the program on Thursday, June 18.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God, my family, the GHS administration and everyone who has supported me throughout my coaching journey,” Peera said in a statement. “I’m truly honored and excited to accept the opportunity to become the next head football coach at Gainesville High School.”
Peera takes over for Ian Scott, who was a former three-year UF defensive lineman. After three seasons, Scott stepped down in May, finishing with an 8-22 record.
“We are excited to have Coach Peera as our new head football coach,” said Gainesville High Athletics Director Phillip Knight. “His experience, combined with his vision for our program, convinced us that he was the right man for the job. We are looking forward to working with him and helping him put his vision in place to help our student-athletes succeed.”
The Chicago native had worked as the Director of Player Engagement at Louisiana under Napier from 2019-21.
Peera had two prior high school head coaching stints at East Ridge High School in Clermont, Florida, and Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado.
