Addie Deal brings real talent to the Wisconsin Badgers women's basketball program. Her impressive background instantly adds depth to the roster.
The former five-star recruit and McDonald's All-American transferred from Iowa earlier this offseason, giving Robin Pingeton another guard with top-level skills and Big Ten experience.
Deal put up solid numbers on the court, even if they did not fully match the hype. She averaged 5.1 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 rebounds as a freshman with the Hawkeyes and made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Most importantly, her background suggests she has even more potential to grow. She was ranked No. 9 overall in the 2025 class, the top player in California, and is the first Badgers player to be a McDonald's All-American in high school.
This is important for Wisconsin because the Badgers need more options to challenge defenses from the outside. Deal gives Pingeton another ball handler who can change the pace and help the team rely less on a single playmaker. Even if she starts out in a supporting role, her recruiting background could change how opponents defend the rest of the team.
Wisconsin has worked this offseason to add players who can make the team better now but still have room to grow, and Deal fits that approach. She is young enough to keep getting better, but already skilled enough to contribute right away. For a program looking to improve quickly, that is a valuable mix.
