Former Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Chris Taylor is still set to play baseball for the time being, as he has changed his mind about retirement.

On Friday, MLB’s transaction log listed Taylor as retired, signaling the end of his 12-year career.

However, Angels beat reporter Rhett Bollinger has reported that Taylor has gone back on his decision to retire and has been placed on the injured list.

During the Angels’ Triple-A game on Wednesday, Taylor was hit by a pitch, and it resulted in a left forearm fracture.

During Taylor’s retirement, there were so many tributes from Dodgers fans, and manager Dave Roberts even chimed in with his own thoughts on Taylor as a player he managed for years.

“He’s had a great career. He got everything out of his ability. He was a great teammate. I was fortunate enough to coach him,” Roberts said.

“I hope he, [his wife] Mary and the kids can ride off into the sunset. He does a lot of stuff for their foundation. He was a joy, a complete pro.”

What’s next for Chris Taylor?

Taylor is on a minor league deal, meaning he will need to prove himself in the lower ranks once he gets healthy. He is hitting .255/.382/.321 down in Triple-A with 27 hits in 106 at-bats.

The Angels, meanwhile, are one of the worst teams in baseball, lacking quality on both defense and offense.

There is a path for him to get consistent playing time as long as he hits the ball decently. His glove is still really good, and he can fill plenty of different spots.

For a struggling team like the Angels, he can be a locker-room leader who calms things down for the younger players.

No matter how things end for Taylor, as our very own Doug McKain likes to say, he will never need to buy a big in Los Angeles.
