On Friday, Chris Taylor retired from MLB after 12 seasons in the league, according to Major League Baseball’s transaction log. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Angels veteran outfielder changed his mind about retirement.
Taylor has reportedly decided to continue his career and will now be placed on the minor league injured list, according to MLB insider Rhett Bollinger. Two days before announcing his retirement, Taylor excited Triple-A Salt Lake’s game early with a left forearm fracture after getting hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.
Taylor is currently part of the Angels’ organization after signing a minor league contract with the franchise in March. He has yet to make an MLB appearance this season and has played 32 games with Triple-A Salt Lake.
Across those 32 games, Taylor has slashed .255/.382/.321 and hit 15 RBIs. He is a regular starter for Triple-A Salt Lake in the outfield, making 17 appearances in right field, 10 in left field and two in center field this season.
Taylor joined the Angels in May 2025 as a free agent after the Los Angeles Dodgers released him in the middle of the season. Before signing with the Halos, Taylor spent nearly a decade with the Dodgers, where he was part of three World Series championship teams (2020, 2024, 2025) and earned his sole All-Star selection in 2021.

After the 2021 season, Taylor’s performance slowly started to decline and injuries became a more frequent issue. That did not change when he joined the Angels last May, as Taylor had two different stints on the injured list and played in just 30 games after signing with the Halos.
Taylor’s decision to return seems like one last effort to make it back to MLB before retiring. Taylor’s last MLB game was on Sept. 28, 2025.
