Former Los Angeles Dodgers utility player Chris Taylor has officially decided to retire after two days of conflicting reports.

Taylor was first spotted on Friday in the Minor League Baseball transaction log as having decided to retire from the Los Angeles Angels’ Triple-A affiliate.

Taylor been hit by a pitch that fractured his left arm.

On Saturday, though, Angels beat reporter Rhett Bollinger has reported that Taylor had gone back on his decision to retire and had been placed on the injured list.

On Sunday, though, Taylor himself took to Instagram to announce that he was officially retiring.

“Clearing up any confusion,” he wrote. “I’ve officially decided to retire from the game I’ve dedicated my entire life towards. I’m beyond grateful to all of my coaches and teammates, and the organizations who allowed me to live out my childhood dream. I’ll forever cherish the memories along the way and most of all, the friendships that will last a lifetime. Thank you to the loyal fans who have supported me through my success and stuck with me through the struggles. Thank you to my parents and family who have been with me from the very beginning. My baseball journey would have never begun if it weren’t for you guys. Most of all, thank you to my wife Mary who has been my number one. You stepped up for our family and allowed me to see my dream through all the way to the end and then some. I cant wait to start our next chapter in life together with our boys.”


What did the Dodgers and fans say about Taylor?

After the initial news of Taylor’s retirement, there were many tributes from Dodgers fans, and manager Dave Roberts even chimed in with his own thoughts on Taylor as a player he managed for years.

“He’s had a great career. He got everything out of his ability. He was a great teammate. I was fortunate enough to coach him,” Roberts said.

“I hope he, [his wife] Mary and the kids can ride off into the sunset. He does a lot of stuff for their foundation. He was a joy, a complete pro.”

Dodgers Nation’s Nelson Espinal also detailed some of Taylor’s greatest postseason moments with the Dodgers.
