Former Auburn edge named Georgia football's best portal addition

ESPN has released a list of the top transfer portal additions for every team featured in the way-too-early top 25, per Max Olson.

The Georgia Bulldogs have added a multitude of talent from the transfer portal this offseason. Most notably, coach Kirby Smart and his staff were able to land former Auburn Tigers edge Amaris Williams and the former Tiger is expected to play a vital role on the Dawgs’ defensive line in 2026. At 6-foot-2, 260-pounds, Williams is an extremely talented edge rusher despite struggling to find his true role on the Auburn defense throughout the entire 2025 campaign.

Williams was ranked as the No. 4 edge and the No. 36 overall player in the transfer portal, per the 247Sports Transfer Rankings. The athletic edge rusher could quickly flourish in the Dawgs’ defense next season, as Williams will more than likely have a larger role in Athens opposed to his time at Auburn. Georgia has lost numerous defensive linemen to the NFL draft this offseason including star big man Christen Miller.

Here's what ESPN's Max Olson said about Williams.

Williams could end up being one of the breakout stars of this portal cycle if he can put it all together in Athens. The No. 88 overall recruit in the 2024 ESPN 300 played just 310 snaps over his two seasons in a rotational role at Auburn and hasn't been as productive as the other edge players available in the portal with 20 career tackles, 12 pressures, 7.5 TFLs and 2.5 sacks.

Williams has an impressive pass rush get-off and is disruptive with his quickness. He will join pass rushers Quintavius Johnson and Gabe Harris on the edge this season at UGA.
