Former Alabama defensive tackle Jonathan Allen is expected to be released by the Minnesota Vikings, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Allen has had an excellent career at both Alabama and in the NFL. The veteran will now turn his full attention towards landing with a new team prior to the 2026 campaign, as the talented defensive tackle could still play an everyday role on a multitude of teams around the NFL.
Allen spent the 2025 season as a member of the Vikings following an eight-year tenure with the Washington Commanders, as the former Crimson Tide star is expected to draw interest from a number of teams around the league in free agency.
At 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, Allen recorded 3.5 sacks in 17 games with the Vikings last year. The veteran big man was very solid in 2025, as Allen continues to be a key contributor throughout the second half of his professional career.
The 2026 NFL season will officially begin on Sept. 10, as Allen will more than likely find a new team to sign with in the near future.

The Vikings are expected to release DT Jonathan Allen due to salary cap constraints, per sources.
The former Pro Bowler had 68 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 17 starts. The Vikings are $40-plus million over the cap and need to get under, thus the move. pic.twitter.com/kz2W6alkaM
