If you really think that a WR is only about speed ( and if you do, does the name Anquan Boldin do anything for you), then here you have the numbers on the "burners":

a) Carlos Francis: 4.31
b) Sammie Parker: 4.34
c) Lee Evans: 4.37

Who do you take.....and have you ever heard of Carlos Francis or Sammie Parker? Be honest now!

BTW.....yes I have.....I study football.....but only Evans goes in the 1st round, out of this group anyway!

This is a moot point as Mike Williams has all the other important components that WR's need. He isn't ONLY fast. He also has good hands...etc.

I haven't heard of any of the players you mentioned as they are burners, but solid in the rest of their game.

Parker was brilliant in their bowl game, he has a habit of dropping balls now and then but I've mentioned him before as a guy I'd like after the 3rd round. No idea about Francis.

Evans is a guy I like too, not as tall as the main guys, but super productive player who overcame the ACL and apparently has his speed back. I don't think he goes round 1 btw.

Evans might slipped in the mid 1st round or he will still be there at the 2nd round.

Prior to running, I figured Evans to be a round 2 guy but after that 4.3 40, that pushed him into round 1 I believe because it proves his knee is all the way back and it is very hard to argue with his WR ability...he isn't just about speed.

I like Parker alot too...especially because he returned punts at Oregon (gets Quan out of that role) plus even though he isn't a partiucularly big kid, he isn't afraid to go across the middle and has shown good hands.

Totally agree. Lee Evans is a guy who could surprise a lot of people down the road. Before his injury, he was a top 20 player.

Carlos Francis was part of the spread offense at Texas Tech. He has reliable hands and a nose for the endzone. I believe he was the smallest receiver at the combine, measuring 5'9. He may not have been the tallest but was productive this last year.

If you really think that a WR is only about speed ( and if you do, does the name Anquan Boldin do anything for you),
The Boldin observation is fast taking on the characteristic of what "they" say.

Many scouts (including the Cardinals) knew that Boldin's 4.71 time reflected incomplete recovery from his knee problem and that he was expected to improve considerably in a later workout (which it did - somewhere around 4.63, considered more than acceptable by NFL standards - i.e. see Jerry Rice).

A WR isn't only about speed, but if you are trying to evaluate 6-3 wideouts (i.e. Fitz. the 3 Williams, Clayton and guys further down the ladder like Jenkins and Wilford), if they run slower than 4.59, you're going to probably downgrade them. And the ones who run faster than 4.50 will move ahead of the others.

The real issue is - given the entire package - what in the way of speed will get the job done? It varies from player to player. Boldin had enough other redeeming features so that he didn't have to be a true burner.

But there are other receivers (who don't have quite the skills that Q has or the size that Fitzgerald or Mike Williams have) who had better be pretty fast or very very tough and reliable.

The number one quality I would look for in a WR is their ability to get loose from a DB who has ahold of their jersey/shoulder pads.

That seems to be the defense that most NFL teams favor and the refs seem to be allowing it. Speed doesn't do you any good if you're giving a guy a piggy-back ride for the first 5 yards of your route.

Could be why Green wants to move Boldin to SE from the slot. He's probably much better than Johnson at getting loose from the DB's.
