Charlie Cresswell
Brighton will need depth heading into the Conference League for only their second ever campaign in Europe. The lessons of 2023-24, when they reached the Round of 16 in the Europa League but finished 11th in the Premier League, will be fresh in their minds.
The Seagulls' recruitment has been the gold standard for many years, so it's likely chairman Tony Bloom's top secret algorithms have already zeroed in on the next future household name they're picking up for tuppence from the Ecuadorian second division.
But if I were in his shoes – Brighton supporters are probably thankful I am not – I'd be coming back for another bite at Charlie Cresswell. The Seagulls reportedly had a bid turned down for the former Leeds defender in January and their interest has sustained into the summer window.
Cresswell was a key member of back-to-back European Championship-winning England U21 squads and after two impressive campaigns at Ligue 1 side Toulouse, the 23-year-old looks ready to step back into the Premier League.
With club captain Lewis Dunk turning 35 this year, Brighton need to begin succession planning – and Cresswell would be a very smart place to start.
