Florida State basketball's coaching staff is casting its net wide in what is shaping up to be one of the most consequential transfer portal cycles in program history. On Tuesday, the Seminoles made a connection with one of the most intriguing mid-major scorers available in the country, UNC Asheville sophomore guard Kameron Taylor.

Taylor broke out last season, averaging 18.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while earning Big South All-Conference First Team honors. He held a Zoom call with Florida State on Tuesday, according to On3's Jamie Shaw. It is the kind of recruitment that illustrates exactly what head coach Luke Loucks is looking for as he works to rebuild a Seminoles backcourt gutted by graduation and portal departures.

Taylor appeared in 32 games with 30 starts during the 2025-26 season, shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from three-point range. In January, Taylor earned Big South Co-Player of the Week honors after leading Asheville to a 2-0 week, pouring in 24 points in one game and 27 in the next.

His most jaw-dropping performance came near the end of the regular season against Charleston Southern, where Taylor delivered a career night with 35 points. For his efforts, Taylor was named to the 2025-26 All-Big South Conference team, capping a sophomore campaign that vaulted him onto the radar of programs across the country.

Taylor checks several boxes the Seminoles need to tick. At 6-foot-7, he offers the kind of wing size and versatility that Loucks has said he wants to prioritize going forward — a player who can guard multiple positions defensively while creating offense from the perimeter and mid-range.

Taylor will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination, giving whichever program lands him a long-term investment at a position that requires athleticism and scoring punch on the wing. The transfer portal remains open through April 21, meaning Loucks and his staff have a two-week window to made ket additions to their roster for the 2026-27 season.

Combine that with five players having entered the transfer portal, and Loucks' staff is actively shopping for players who can score, create, and contribute immediately at the ACC level.
