Former Duke Blue Devil Amile Jefferson, a current Celtics assistant coach, was recently named Boston's head coach for the 2026 NBA Summer League. Another former Duke alum, Steve Wojciechowski is also a summer league head coach, leading the Utah Jazz. Jefferson spent five seasons with the Blue Devils, averaging 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 150 appearances.
Jefferson played just 30 games in the NBA over two seasons with the Orlando Magic before transitioning to coaching. He started his coaching career with Duke as director of player development under Mike Krzyzewski and was later promoted to an assistant role under current head coach Jon Scheyer. Following his two seasons on Duke's bench, he landed with the Celtics, joining his former Duke teammate Jayson Tatum.
Still just 33 years old, Jefferson figures to have a long coaching career ahead of him. He and the Celtics will begin their summer league campaign July 10.
