Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round pick Travis Hunter met with the local media for the first time on Friday afternoon.
In case you missed it, here are the highlights from the interview.
- James Gladstone opened by saying that Hunter is a rare person, a rare player, and a reminder that the boundaries of football were meant to be challenged. "The decision to select him was actually a statement. A statement for how we plan to move, who we are, and we want him to be nothing more than him because he elevates the space around him."
- "Just excited to get here, come back home, and get to work," said Hunter about his feelings.
- Hunter has a 4.0 GPA at Colorado. "Just the mindset of trying to be the best of everything that I do," said Hunter when asked about his GPA. "I don't want anyone to have a step ahead of me."
- "It gives me a sense that they believe in me," said Hunter of the Jaguars trading up for him. "I just gotta go out there and prove them right."
- How can you help change Jacksonville? "I'm going to come out and do my job. I'm not going to say I'm going to change anything...I'm going to come in and do my job and hopefully we change the atmosphere."
- "It was a great choice, I just gotta come do my job," said Hunter about Gladstone calling this pick a statement.
- Hunter says Brian Thomas Jr. will be big for him and he's going to lean on him and ask questions, but adds he wants to be better than him as well.
- "We know that he's going to be able to do both," said Liam Coen. They'll set that up from a schedule and operational standpoint. Coen adds that they have to be fluid when it comes to scheduling. They have the schedule built out, but have to be flexible to adjust as needed.
- "It's got a lot of layers on the sports science front," said Gladstone about managing Hunter's schedule and workload to maximize his abilities.
- At the NFL combine, when the Jaguars met with Hunter, one thing that stood out to Gladstone was his growth mindset and that he wants to continue to learn, along with being curious.
- "I don't think it takes much to see that Travis has gravitational pull," Gladstone says.
